Who We Are Today

Mission: Through innovation and collaboration, we provide holistic and success-driven programs and services for Bermuda's children and young people..

The Sunshine League is an organisation that has been in existence for over 90 years. The organization recently transitioned out of residential foster care in order to support the wider scope of children and young people on the island. We are Registered Charity #95.

In March of 2014, we launched our flagship programme: PATHWAYS TO INDEPENDENCE, a Transitional Living Programme for young men who are between the ages of 18 and 25+, who are in need of assistance in the areas of education, employment, residential stability and health care.  We offer a healthy nurturing environment in which they can work toward attaining goals that they set for themselves, and help set them on a path toward successful independent living.  This is the first programme of its kind in Bermuda for young men.  We offer transitional housing, life skills training and life coaching, information and resources regarding management of risky behaviors, as well as guidance and assistance with further education, whether that education is academic or vocational in nature.  We also offer job preparedness training, as well as job retention skills to help them prepare for a stable career.  By offering these young men a place where they can feel they belong, and by offering them a sense of permanence, we hope to stem the tide of young men that are seeking their identities within the gang structure on our island.  We are partnering with many other agencies to provide services and to strengthen the continuum of care for Bermuda’s Children and Young People.  Our programme is open to those that are aging out of the foster care system, those that are referred by other helping agencies, and those who voluntarily seek assistance. We currently have three residents installed in the programme and are actively seeking more clients.

We also have other programmes and services which are running in parallel with the Transitional Living Programme.  They include our foster parent education seminar series, our summer camp program, book scholarships and other initiatives which we feel will improve the social fabric of Bermuda’s community by supporting not only foster care in Bermuda but our families in general, especially ones that are struggling in these difficult times.

Part of the League's rich existence has been greatly enhanced by the philanthropic spirit of the community. We are incredibly grateful for all past and future contributions and remain wholly committed to ensuring that no child or young person in Bermuda will be left homeless, or in an abusive or unhealthy living environment.

These are Bermuda's young people. An investment in them is an investment in the future of our island.  Please consider donating  by clicking the button on the website, or contact us for more information.
